"Nature’s secret to balancing your metabolism, fighting disease, and revitalizing body & soul”
Seaweed (V. N. Cooksley), Stewart, Tabori & Chang, New York, 2007
Seagreens® are harvested during the short Arctic summer, among an archipelago of remote conservation islands which stretches more than 100 miles (180 kms) off the Lapland coast of Norway.
The habitat in this land of the midnight sun is ideal, producing dense shallow water Wrack seaweeds with an outstanding nutritional profile.
Traditional cutting of the upper plant is entirely sustainable and the harvested areas are carefully rotated to allow full regrowth of the plants.
There is no dredging or collection of dead, floating or beached seaweed. Seagreens® are uniquely Certified free of environmental contaminants, toxic metals and microbial pathogens.
|
The seaweed is washed and air dried at the point of harvest, on the day of harvest, at temperatures which preserve its nutritional qualities. It is then cracked or granulated and shipped to England to produce the familiar forms of Seagreens® you find in the stores. We don’t powder our seaweed which can reduce its nutritional value. Harvesting, production and products are Certified to international Organic and Biodynamic® Standards. |

Seagreens® Ascophyllum grows wild among the Arctic Lofoten islands in relatively shallow water down to about 5 meters.
Seagreens® Pelvetia grows on the inter-tidal ocks. It is called Channel wrack because it holds the water in tiny tubes during the ebb tide. Seagreens® Fucus grows in shallow water along the surface, its length containing numerous ‘bubbles’ which keep it afloat. |
Hand harvested Our drying and processing facilities are close to all the harvesting areas which spread over about 6 square miles. These are rotated over the years to allow the seaweed to grow to maturity between 3 and 4 years from the previous harvest.
Seagreens® are dried on the day of harvest, after which they are ready to be processed into the various forms required for our products. |
Organic production partnership
Nothing is added to or extracted from Seagreens® fresh dried wild seaweeds.

Seagreens® nutrition and natural remedy products are encapsulated here in a Pharmaceutical Clean Room complex validated ISO Class 9 in accordance with ISO 14644-1(1999). Encapsulation in rapidly soluble hypromellose capsules of 100% vegetable origin (GRAS-listed HPMC / United States and European Pharmacopoeias, reference EP1997/USP24, EU no. E464) employs a proprietary filling method (Trufil®) which exceeds industry standard average content practice, ensuring the minimum content stated on the jar. Independent analysis of all ingredients conforms with British FSA and US FDA regulations; reserve samples are kept for investigation 12 months from batch production date. We provide consulting services in overseas marketing, manufacturing and distribution of our products.Seagreens® Pelvetia grows on the inter-tidal. |

10 years of 100% recycling
Products are filled into 100% recyclable, light-protective PET consumer jars with sealed screwtop caps, fully compliant with EU and US Federal packaging and labelling regulations.
Packaging materials are certified free of any noxious compounds or heavy metals, being of pure chemical composition of the basic elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen formed in a reaction between glycol and terephthalic acid. No chemical antioxidants, stabilisers or plasticisers are used.
Whilst the jar is as clear as glass it is light-protective, pliable, shatterproof and virtually impermeable to contamaination. If burned instead of recylcled, it has a higher calorific value than paper almost as good as coal.
|
The jar can be crushed to minimum size for solid waste depositories or landfills with very slow decomposure and zero toxicity. All production, labelling and consumer information aims to comply with with international, EU, FSA and FDA regulations. Consumer products for wholesalers and retailers are supplied in strong shippable recycled corrugated cardboard trade cases containing 12 small jars or 6 large jars, and trade outers which contain 48 jars as 4 x 12 small or 8 x 6 large jars. |

Seagreens® are widely accepted in domestic animals and livestock and provide a firm foundation of health much as they do in the human diet.
Seagreens® wild Ascophyllum seaweed is available for animal feed as:
Fine Granules - homogenous fine granules which unlike powders, mix evenly and do not congeal or create dust (we do not powder our seaweed which can harm the mineral content)
Agricultural Granules - a ‘meal’ of mixed granular size from very fine to 2mm Medium Granules - 1mm granules Large Granules - 2mm granules Liquid Purée - cold-micronised whole seaweed in liquid form with a viscosity siumilar to Heinz tomato ketchup (but olive green)!
|
The granular forms should be mixed with a premix or directly into the feed; the liquid form diluted in drinking water. Some of these products are also used in horticulture. Special prices and distribution arrangements are available to Certified Biodynamic® and Organic farms and charitable institutions. |
“Seaweed has a composition very different to that of land vegetation...more than 60 microminerals and trace elements varying from 15-25% of the dry weight compared with 5-6% in hay and 4% or less in various grains. The fat and protein is about the same as for vegetation generally, but the vitamin content is exceptionally favourable, with for example, provitamin A (carotene), vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin E, folic and folinic acid, and vitamin B12 which does not occur in land vegetation. Seaweed is rich in carbohydrates, but these differ greatly from those found in land plants, with alginic acid, laminarin, and mannitol among the most significant” “The ‘fertility vitamin’ E tocopherol, varies from 156-298 mg/kg in wild wrack seaweed (Ascophyllum), against 25-30 mg/kg in common Kelp (Laminaria) and 111 mg/kg in grass” |
The benefits of feeding seaweed to animals...
Daily nutritional balance is the foundation of sustained growth and health. Yet important natural nutrients are missing from soils and feed whatever the quality of farm management. The ocean provides a constant ‘reservoir’ of these nutrients and Seagreens® wild Ascophyllum absorbs and concentrates them in an ideal soluble or ‘colloidal’ (readily absorbed) state as a natural whole food. Principally, Seagreens®: “The benefits of feeding seaweed to animals seem out of all proportion to the apparent food value of the seaweed itself. Trace elements and growth hormones are probably involved, although the fact that seaweed modifies the intestinal flora of livestock may be chiefly responsible. It may be that in modifying their intestinal bacteria to help them digest the seaweed, livestock are better able to exploit other ingreedients in their diet”
W. A. Stephenson, Seaweed in Agriculture and Horticulture, 3rd edition, Rateaver, California 1974.
